The Town & Village Historian plays a vital role in researching, documenting, and preserving local history. Responsibilities fall into four broad categories:
- Research & Writing – Interpreting and documenting the past through written works.
- Education & Public Engagement – Providing lectures, tours, and educational programming.

The Historian serves as a key resource for local government, schools, community organizations, the press, and the public on historical matters.

To establish and enhance programs that ensure the effective management and preservation of local history.
Community Engagement
The Town & Village Historian maintains and preserves Pittsford’s historical records, assisting residents and visitors with inquiries about ancestry, genealogy, historic buildings, and local history. The Historian also leads lectures and walking tours, often in collaboration with the Pittsford Recreation Department, to educate the community about its historical landmarks and cemeteries.
